Julianna Barwick reworks Tiny Leaves' "Cynefin" (listen)

Tiny Leaves

Last year, minimalist artist Tiny Leaves (aka Nathaniel Pike) released his latest album Notes On Belonging, which includes four lengthy pieces. He’s planning an album with different artists reworking the Notes On Belonging songs, including Julianna Barwick doing a rework of “Cynefin” (a Welsh word that loosely translates to “the environment in which you live, to which you are naturally acclimatised”), which comes out as a single this Friday (12/14) on Pegdoll Records. At seven minutes, her rework is slightly shorter than the ten-and-a-half minute original, and it sees her incorporating her own voice which is a really nice touch. Her version is even more ambient and minimal than the original too, stripping it of its lively piano and strings in favor for something much more meditative and ethereal. It makes its premiere below.

Other artists on the forthcoming rework album include Haiku Salut, Oscuro, Billion One and Ink Project. Release date TBA.
