Julien Baker Turn Out Lights

Julien Baker announces 'Turn Out the Lights,' shares "Appointments"

We’ve been highly anticipating Julien Baker‘s first album for a Matador for a while, and now it’s finally announced. It’s called Turn Out the Lights and it comes out on October 27 via her new label home. It’s the followup to her 2015 debut Sprained Ankle, one of our favorite albums of that year.

Julien produced the new album herself, and it was mixed by Craig Silvey (who’s also mixed albums for The National, Arcade Fire, and Florence + the Machine). The lead single is “Appointments,” which is another dose of Julien’s trademark minimal sound, and it has her belting it around the four-minute mark in a way we haven’t really heard from her before. It’s keeping us excited to hear the rest of this album. Listen and check out the tracklist below. That’s the artwork above.

Julien is on tour with Belle & Sebastian right now, playing Louisville tonight (8/17), and she has a run with Half Waif after that.

It turns out that the run with Half Waif hits NYC the day the album comes out, October 27 at Town Hall. Tickets for that show are still available. Updated dates are listed below.
