Julien Baker's tour in continued support of last year's great Sprained Ankle recently hit Chicago, and last night (1/21) it came to Mercury Lounge for its first of two NYC shows. The place was sold out, very packed, and everyone was clearly spellbound by her bare-bones sound that's just her voice and a guitar. She covered Elliott Smith's "Ballad of Big Nothing," which is a perfect fit for her own material, and sounded great doing it. Check out a video of that from the show, below.

She also mentioned on stage that she had run sound for local NYC opener Eskimeaux when they played some bar in Tennessee (Julien's home state), and she was happy to see them again under better circumstances. They were a pretty well-matched pairing with Julien's music, too.
