Julien Baker played NJ (pics); Mountain Goats covered her cover of them (watch)

Julien Baker is on tour now in continued support of Turn Out the Lights, her first album for Matador, second overall, and one of the best of 2017. That tour swung through Jersey City’s White Eagle Hall last night (4/17) for a show with Tancred, where Julien played a set split pretty evenly between Turn Out the Lights and her great 2015 debut. She was excellent as always, totally captivating the crowd to the point where you could’ve heard a pin drop during her hushed songs. Pictures are in the gallery above and her setlist is below.

Julien hung around NJ to play an in-store at Vintage Vinyl tonight (4/18) (which happened already). After that, her next NYC-area show will be a much bigger one: Prospect Park on July 25 with Courtney Barnett and Vagabon (tickets).

The night before the Jersey City show, Julien played Northampton where she covered The Mountain Goats’ “No Children.” The Mountain Goats’ John Darnielle loved her version of the song so much, that he played “the Julien Baker version” at his show in Portland last night (4/17). Watch below.
