Kamasi Washington & Herbie Hancock announce tour
Modern-day jazz leader Kamasi Washington and the legendary Herbie Hancock are heading out on a joint tour this year, surrounding both artists’ appearances at Newport Jazz Fest (which recently announced its third wave of artists including Common and more). The tour hits Philly, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, Denver, Seattle, Portland, and more.
Herbie’s band for this tour includes Vinnie Colaiuta, James Genus, Lionel Loueke, and Terrace Martin (the latter of whom is overseeing the production of Herbie’s upcoming album, which is expected to feature Kendrick Lamar, Thundercat, Kamasi Washington, and Flying Lotus). Herbie plays NYC, LA, and San Diego on this tour without Kamasi, though Kamasi does play NYC right after the tour ends at Afropunk Brooklyn.
Herbie’s NYC show happens at Beacon Theatre on August 1. Tickets for all dates go on sale Friday (4/12) at 10 AM local time.
