Kanye West is on tour now, having played his first of two shows at NYC's Madison Square Garden last night (9/5). Like at the other stops on this tour, he had a moving stage that was suspended above the crowd and lit by several bulbs ("all of the lights," if you will). Some more details on the show, via Newsday:
The general-admission floor area looked more like a rave than a concert with people jumping about as West performed “All Day,” “Mercy” and “Black Skinhead” atop the stage. His close-up image was projected on screens above the lighting rig.
West worked the entire arena by himself keeping the energy high with new songs from his latest album, “The Life of Pablo,” which he debuted at MSG in February as part of his Yeezy Season 3 fashion show.
In case you were wondering, that Newsday writeup also points out that he didn't deliver one his infamous "rants" at this show.
We haven't seen the exact setlist for the MSG show yet, but the sets have basically been the same this whole tour so far. He's been doing Drake's "Pop Style" and ScHoolboy Q's "That Part" (both of which he has verses on), plus TLOP highlights like "Father Stretch My Hands" parts 1 and 2, "Famous," "Facts," "Wolves," "Fade," "Ultralight Beam," and more. He of course also did classics like "Gold Digger," "Jesus Walks," and "Can't Tell Me Nothing" and "new Kanye" faves like "Black Skinhead," "Blood on the Leaves," "All of the Lights," "Heartless," and more.
UPDATE: Full MSG night 1 setlist below.
Last night's show was the first of Kanye's two MSG shows, but it was actually his second time at The Garden this week. He made a surprise appearance on Sunday (9/4) when Puff Daddy brought the Bad Boy Family Reunion Tour to that same venue. He played "Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1" with Diddy. Here's a shot from Puff's Instagram:
Kanye's tour hits The Garden again tonight (9/6), and he does Yeezy Season 4 the next day (9/7) during New York Fashion Week. He returns to NYC in October for The Meadows Fest at Citi Field. Check out more pics and videos of last night's MSG show:
