The Academy for Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the people who run the Academy Awards, has inducted nearly a thousand new members into its ranks, in an ongoing effort to include more diversity in its membership. (In recent years the Oscars have been criticized for being predominantly Old, White, and Male.) Among the 928 new members are a number of musicians, including Questlove, Kendrick Lamar, Sufjan Stevens, Chuck D, Melissa Etheridge, and The Revolution’s Wendy Melvoin. Also inducted: Daniel Kaluuya, Mindy Kaling, Tiffany Haddish, Kumail Nanjiani, Amy Schumer, Dave Chappelle, Miles Teller, Randall Park, Daisy Ridley, Timothee Chalamet, Hong Chau, Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey, Regina Hall, Rashida Jones, Sarah Silverman, Jada Pinkett Smith, and more. Variety reports that 49% of the new inductees are female, with 38% being people of color. You can check out the full list here.
