Kevin Morby played Town Hall with Sam Cohen (pics, setlist)

Kevin Morby brought his Oh My God tour to NYC this past weekend, playing Town Hall on Friday night (5/31). Oh My God, his ambitious new album which came out in April, was the focus of the show, and he and his eight-piece band played nine of its 14 songs, but he played older favorites too, like “I Have Been to the Mountain,” “”Cut Me Down,” and “City Music.” For his great protest single “Beautiful Strangers,” Kevin brought out his girlfriend Katie Crutchfield of Waxahachee to sing, and he saved two NYC-specific songs — “Harlem River” and “Parade” — for the encore. The stage was adorned with artificial flowers and billowy cotton giving the effect, appropriate for the religious themes of the album, that they were playing in the clouds.

Sam Cohen and most of the Oh My God band are pulling double duty on this tour. Sam co-produced Kevin’s album and plays in his band, while the rest of the band (but with bassist Brian Betancourt) back Sam on his opening set. Pictures from Sam’s set and the whole night are in the gallery above, and Kevin’s setlist is below.
