Stephen Malkmus shadowbanned video

Kim Gordon, Mac DeMarco, Sharon Van Etten & more star in Stephen Malkmus' "Shadowbanned" video

Stephen Malkmus has shared “Shadowbanned” from his upcoming album Traditional Techniques. It’s a psych-folk jam about the the dark corners of the internet and tech industry — “Sky high on Reddit karma fly / Amazon wheatfields and rivers of Red Bull” — that comes with an appropriate video by director Jan Lankish. It features a whole bunch of friends and fans — including Kim Gordon, Sharon Van Etten, Jason Schwartzman, Mac DeMarco, Kurt Vile, and Conor Oberst— lip synching the song with an Instagram Malkmus face filter. (Try it yourself.) That’s mixed with old footage of Malkmus and Pavement. You can watch that, and check out the full cast, below.

Traditional Techniques is out next week via Matador and he and his band — which includes Matt Sweeney and The Decemberists’ Chris Funk (who play on the album) — will be on tour this spring, including NYC’s Webster Hall on April 13. Updated tour dates are listed below.
