Australia’s King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard were in NYC over the weekend for back-to-back shows at Baby’s All Right on Friday (5/16) and Saturday (5/17) that wrapped up their post-Psych Fest tour. I trudged out through the rain on Friday and enjoyed their set. Armed with two drummers and three singers, King Gizzard mostly kept things moving/interesting, with their brand of psych that falls somewhere between Thee Oh Sees and the Brian Jonestown Massacre. They did definitely test my tolerance for jamming when, 30-minutes in, they announced they only had one more song. What they didn’t mention was, that last song was about 20 minutes long. Despite the torrential downpours that night, there was a decent crowd there too, most of whom seemed pretty into it.

If you missed them last weekend, King Gizzard are sticking around NYC and have a couple more shows on the horizon. They play Saturday (5/24) at Rockaway Beach Surf Club with Mystery Lights and DJ Jonathan Toubin. That’s a day show and is free. They’ll also be playing the Panache Booking Northside Festival showcase at Baby’s All Right on June 12 with Hunters, Juan Wauters, Mac DeMarco’s other band, Walter TV, as well as Homeshake, Big Ups, and DJ Jonathan Toubin. Tickets are on sale now or you can use your Northside badge if you have one of those (note badge entrance based on capacity).
