Musician and provocateur Kirin J Callinan stirred up some controversy when he flashed press photographers at the 2017 ARIA Awards, which was reportedly the reason he was removed from Australia’s Laneway Festival. Now he is facing even more consequences for those actions, as he was charged today “with wilful and obscene exposure in a public place, according to court documents” (via The Guardian). He could face a fine of $1,100 or six months in prison. Here’s more from The Guardian‘s article:

The documents allege Callinan exposed himself at the Crown Casino just after 4pm on 28 November. It is alleged he deliberately exposed his penis in front of photographers and members of the press while wearing a kilt.

In a statement to the Guardian Australia, Callinan’s artist manager, Todd Wagstaff, confirmed the incident was “currently before the court”.

“It is therefore not appropriate to make a comment at this stage,” he said. “Kirin will be speaking about the matter at the appropriate time.”

After being removed from Laneway Fest, Kirin had posted a statement reading, “To all the kind & inquisitive folk that’a bin reachin out re Laneway ~ I appreciate the concern & I’ll address this in time, you have my word.”
