Monarch

Krallice release new album; Monarch and Dark Castle playing shows

French doom greats Monarch returned with their new album Never Forever in late September via Profound Lore. If you haven’t heard it, their slow, crushing riffs, and Emilie Bresson’s soaring, warped vocals are in top form as always. Listen to the whole album below.

Monarch are about to go on a West Coast US tour with another great doom band, Bell Witch, but first they play an East Coast one-off at Brooklyn’s Knitting Factory on November 30. It’s their first NYC show in a couple years and the promoters say it’ll be a while before they return again. Opening is long-running Philly noise trio T.O.M.B. and Ocrilim, another project of Krallice’s Mick Barr. Tickets are on sale. All Monarch dates are listed below.

Monarch’s last two albums, 2014’s Sabbracadaver and 2012’s Omens, were recorded with Dark Castle‘s Rob Shaffer on drums. Dark Castle have just two upcoming shows at the moment, Wvrm Fest 5 in their home state of Florida and Brooklyn’s Saint Vitus on December 4 with Pyrolatrous and Somnuri (tickets). Earlier this year, Dark Castle reissued their full discography on vinyl.

Like Ocrilim, Pyrolatrous also features a member of Krallice (Lev Weinstein). Today, Krallice released their second album of 2017, Go Be Forgotten, which follows the October release of Loüm, a collaboration with Neurosis’ Dave Edwardson. You can stream all of Go Be Forgotten below.

Krallice have two upcoming hometown shows, November 29 at Saint Vitus with Geryon, Hathenter and Kevin Hufnagel (tickets); and “LEVIZALOOZA” on December 16 at Matchless where Lev Weinstein will play a set with all five of his bands: Krallice, Geryon, Pyrolatrous, Woe and Anicon (tickets).

Pyrolatrous released their latest album Teneral in October, and you can stream that below too. Woe just opened for Nails at an Invisible Oranges-presented Knitting Factory show and there’s a review up on IO. Krallice also played NYC earlier this month with Pyrrhon and Yautja and IO reviewed that show too.
