Kristin Kontrol, the pop solo project from Kristin Welchez aka Dee Dee from Dum Dum Girls, will release her debut album, X-Communicate, via Sub Pop on May 27. She's just released the album's title track and first single, which is sleek, anthemic dancepop. Kurt Feldman, of Ice Choir and Depreciation Guild, helped make the record and is a master of these kind of sounds, and is a good match for what she's going for here. You can make parallels to all sorts of '80s things -- Xymox, Pet Shop Boys, the Peter Hook-style bass solo at the end -- but when she really belts out the chorus, "X-Communicate" is aiming for bigger things.

Stream the song, and check out the album art and tracklist below.

In other news, Kristin will be DJing at SXSW this year so keep an eye out. She also made a pretty cool film documenting David Bowie street art around NYC and you can watch that below, too.
