Kristin Kontrol, aka Dee Dee of Dum Dum Girls, made her NYC solo live debut on Wednesday night (6/22) at Baby's All Right, which was also only her third show under the KK name. The show also served as a release party for Kristin's debut album, X-Communicate, and its '80s dancepop vibe translated well to the stage, as she was backed by a full band and a horn section for a few songs. We got most of her debut album, a new song or two and for her encore she covered Prince's "When You Were Mine" with help from opener Starchild, and she invited the audience up on stage to dance for the closing number. Fun show.

Starchild had a Prince-like vibe going in his opening set, both in the style of his songs and his stage moves. He didn't have his band, The New Romantic, with him for this show, but had no problem keeping people's attention (though maybe some were just watching the VHS copy of Sixteen Candles he was showing from an old TV on stage).

Kristin be back in NYC again as part of her tour opening for Garbage, on August 1 at Central Park SummerStage (tickets). The rest of her tour dates are listed, along with more pictures from the whole night at Baby's, below.
