Kyle Craft (ex-Gashcat) released his solo debut on Sub Pop, touring

Some of you might remember the band Gashcat, who formed in Austin in 2010 but then relocated to Shreveport, Louisana (where frontman Kyle Craft grew up), but who broke up before managing to get out a followup album to their 2011 debut Reunion. They were a band NPR called “fabulously chaotic,” and who played SXSW a few times, including BrooklynVegan and Sub Pop shows in 2012.

Kyle Craft is now living in Portland, OR and signed to Sub Pop as a solo artist. His debut album Dolls of Highland came out in late April. He’s doing the ’70s Songwriter thing, having earned comparisons to Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Meat Loaf, and more. He wrote, recorded and produced the album himself, and it was mixed by Brandon Summers and Benjamin Weikel of his labelmates The Helio Sequence. He’s undoubtedly got a powerful voice, as you can hear for yourself by streaming the album below. The video for “Eye of a Hurricane” is below too.

Kyle just announced a summer tour in support of the album, including a NYC show on August 11 at Mercury Lounge. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (6/10) at noon with an AmEx presale starting Wednesday (6/8) at noon. All dates are listed below.
