David Berman Tribute

Lance Bangs led a David Berman tribute outside the Met Breuer (pics, video)

Shortly after news of David Berman‘s tragic death began to spread, filmmaker Lance Bangs began to organize an “informal memorial” outside of NYC’s Met Breur, the former location of The Whitney, where David once worked as a security guard. That memorial happened on Thursday night (8/8), when a group of people gathered on the E 75th St side of the museum to read David’s lyrics and poetry. As @cmasonwells recounts, the evening’s spot storms hit the area while someone read the lyrics to “Snow Is Falling in Manhattan” from David’s excellent comeback album under the name Purple Mountains, that came out less than a month ago.

See pictures, video, and social media accounts from the gathering below.

An outpouring of tributes to David have come from his fellow musicians, too, and Nothing paid tribute by covering Silver Jews’ “We Are Real.”
