Laura Veirs announces new album 'Found Light' & tour, shares new song & video

Laura Veirs has announced her 12th album, Found Light, due July 8 via her own Raven Marching Band Records (pre-order). Her first album made since her divorce with her longtime husband and longtime producer, Laura co-produced this one herself alongside Shahzad Ismaily, and it features Sam Amidon and Karl Blau. The first single is “Winter Windows,” and both the song and its self-directed video have a rawer feel that Laura says is indicative of the album overall:

This video is raw, and like the whole album, truthful. I had a gut, instinctual feeling about a video for this song so I went down to my basement, set up my iPhone and danced to the song. I danced hard. Danced until I was out of breath. Until I’d “said” all I could say.

I love how this video captures feelings of freedom and strength and weirdness, despite the lyrics in this song being quite heavy in spots. I hope this video conveys the confidence and sense of aliveness that I feel now as a solo woman in the world after a tough two and a half years of going through my divorce and the pandemic.

[The song is] very much about the strength of mothers and the power that women in cooperation have to shape their own lives and the lives of children. It’s about us taking the reins of life and sharing our internal light and power. I believe these rays of strength echo outward and foster love that is passed through the generations. It was fun to stretch my vocals on the high chorus near the end. This song gets at my punk roots but feels confident and current to my life right now.

Laura also announced a tour, concluding with a Brooklyn show on July 28 at Public Records. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (4/22) at 10 at AM. All dates are listed below.
