YouTube recently launched 360-degree video and used it to livestream some of Coachella this past weekend. Another festival, Austin’s Levitation, will livestream in 360 this coming weekend via VRLIVE. Here’s what they say:
VRLIVE is powering the first ever 360° virtual reality VRLIVE stream of Levitation Fest. Our live stream gives you the ability to experience stages throughout the fest–and allows a level of immersion you can’t attain through a normal festival live stream.
You’ll experience the entire festival on the two main stages in real time as it happens — in the most immersive way possible.
The feeds can be viewed in web browsers (using arrow keys or the mouse to look around, mobile phones (through the screen and by moving the phone around you), and any type of Google Cardboard headset available. We’ve even made it easy for you to bundle a Cardboard headset, allowing you to virtually “be there” using your smartphone!
Unlike Coachella, you actually have to pay for this one. Subscriptions are $20 for the whole weekend. Additional stream confirmations and the full schedule are coming later this week, but right now it’s confirmed that sets will stream from Animal Collective, Courtney Barnett, Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Black Angels, Ty Segall & the Muggers, Royal Trux, Thurston Moore Band, Black Mountain, Uncle Acid, Parquet Courts, and more.
Unfortunately, some of the big highlights like Brian Wilson (playing Pet Sounds), Slowdive, Sleep and Sunn O))) aren’t currently on the streaming lineup.
