Liars composed the score to Jeremy Phillips’ directorial debut, 1/1 (One Over One), and the soundtrack will be released on July 20 via Mute. Created just after Liars’ 2014 album Mess, the soundtrack marks the last recordings by Angus Andrew and Aaron Hemphill before Hemphill amicably left the band. Andrew and Hemphill were given the film’s script by Phillips who also gave them descriptions of emotions to score. “This was the perfect thing for us to hear, that allowed us to explore that feeling,” says Angus. “At this point we still haven’t seen the film, we were going off the script and a few sample scenes. These descriptions were really helpful for us, and even though they were abstract, they allowed a lot of interpretation.” You can check out “Licorice” from the soundtrack, which is very Liars, below, as well as cover art and tracklist.
As for the film, here’s the synopsis:
Starring Lindsey Shaw (Pretty Little Liars), Judd Nelson (The Breakfast Club, St Elmo’s Fire) and Dendrie Taylor (Star Trek Generations, Twins), the film submerges the viewer into the mind of Lissa, a 20-year-old girl in rural Pennsylvania and her struggles with sex, drugs, love and loss.
1/1 will premiere in limited theatrical release and on Blu-ray on July 17.
