Lip Talk preps debut LP 'D A Y S' (listen to "All This Light")
Sarah K. Pedinotti has been making music as Lip Talk for a while now and will release her full-length debut album under that banner, D A Y S, on January 25 via Northern Spy. “I imagined characters in the songs like scenes in a movie, emotion expressed like colors on a canvas.” First single “All This Light” is definitely cinematic, a slowly building pop song that bursts open in technicolor hues. “I wrote this song imagining I was floating out in space staring at our planet and our lights looked like stars. The earth was a mirror of the sky,” says Sarah. “Back in my body, I couldn’t ignore my desire to move and change myself – to look at myself and all my shortcomings, limitations and fantasies of vanishing – and to move with whatever I had. In the past – the consequences of having a spotlight freaked me out. But knowing my own light, creating and performing in that light has been the thing that gets me through.”
We’ve got the premiere of the “All the Light” video, which Sarah made with her cousin, photographer Amanda Picotte. “We’ve been collaborating since we were kids and so this, in some ways, just felt like a continuation of our long-form experiment. We both grew up in the Capital Region and wanted to film the video back home. Things really came together when Mary Beth Besler, owner of The Dance Lab in Saratoga Springs choreographed a dance for us.” Watch that below.
Sarah also stays busy as a session musician, and currently plays in the live lineups of Okkervil River and Kalbells, both of whom she’ll be touring with this fall. (Okkervil River have NYC-area shows at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg and Asbury Lanes this month.) If you catch Kalbells, Sarah will be performing “All This Light” with the band.
