Big Thief guitarist Buck Meek will release his self-titled solo debut on May 18. There is a lot of personality running through the songs on the record, both lyrically and musically, often playing out as little character vignettes. "Maybe," which premieres in this post, is a song of escape, or dreams of it. Or as Buck puts it, "Here is a story about the inner circles of freedom," all set to a sunny melody and a loping, gently chugging beat. Buck also says, "Additionally, I'd like to change the lyric to 'raised by hounds with human horns'." The line as sung by Buck on the record is "carolina-born, bred by hounds with demon horns," but his revision would give it a more sinister edge.

Maybe Buck will change that line when he plays "Maybe" live. He'll be on tour in June with Sam Evian, including a Brooklyn show at Rough Trade on June 8 which is part of Northside Festival and also has Katie Von Schleicher and Potted Plant on the bill (tickets).

Just ahead of his tour with Sam, Buck will play the Kerrville Folk Festival in Kerrville, TX on May 30 with his Big Thief bandmate Adrianne Lenker playing a solo set on the same bill. Big Thief (who are touring too) are playing the festival the next day as well. All tour dates are listed below.
