Magnetic Fields' ambitious 50 Song Memoir is out March 3, 2017 via Nonesuch. For it, Stephin Merritt has written one song for every year he's spent on the planet so far, from 1966 through 2015, a mix of autobiographical numbers to ones he's calling "documentary." You can hear five songs from the project -- from years 1974, 1986, 1993, 2002, and 2013 -- via lyric videos below.

As mentioned, Magnetic Fields will be touring 50 Song Memoir, stopping in cities for two consecutive nights (night one with songs 1 - 25, night two with songs 26 - 50) and it will be presented as an equally ambitious stage show:

In concert, the music will be played and sung by seven performers in a stage set featuring 50 years of artifacts both musical (vintage computers, reel-to-reel tape decks, newly invented instruments), and decorative (tiki bar, shag carpet, vintage magazines for the perusal of idle musicians). The seven performers each play seven different instruments, either traditional (cello, charango, clavichord) or invented in the last 50 years (Slinky guitar, Swarmatron, synthesizer). The stage extravaganza will be directed by the award-winning Jose Zayas (Love in the Time of Cholera, Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter).

The 50 Song Memoir show makes its NYC debut at BAM on December 2 & 3, part of Next Wave fest, and both nights are sold out. All tour dates (most of which are in 2017) are listed, along with the five lyric videos and the album art/tracklist, below.
