listen to Jarvis Cocker & Stephin Merritt (Magnetic Fields) talk music & lots more on Talkhouse podcast

Who wouldn’t want to listen to Jarvis Cocker and Magnetic Fields maestro Stephin Merritt talk about music (or anything else) for an hour? You can do just that on the new episode of The Talkhouse podcast. It was recorded in Brooklyn back in February when it was still ok for relative strangers to talk face to face without masks, and when Beyond the Pale, Jarvis’ first album with his new band JARV IS…, was still due out in May. (It’s now been pushed to September.)

Jarvis and Stephin talk about their new records, and had “a moving discussion of reunions with their showbiz fathers who had abandoned them.” They also discus “the bad omen that nearly caused Jarvis to quit music in the year 2000; why Stephin’s new sexual fetish might be a ‘one time only’ experience; and their shared love of that ‘hippy writer’ Richard Brautigan.” Pour yourself a cup of tea and listen to this very entertaining conversation, below.

The new Magnetic Fields album, Quickies, is still due out next week. Unlike Jarvis’ album (seven long songs), it’s 28 very short songs, none longer than 2:35. They’ve just shared a new single, “I’ve Got a Date With Jesus,” featuring Claudia Gonson on vocals and you can stream that below.

Meanwhle, Jarvis is continuing to DJ via his Domestic Disco series this Saturday (5/8) from 4-6 PM Eastern (9-11 UK time) via his Instagram.
