Twitter has starting rolling out a new feature on iOS where you can record audio snippets and attach them to tweets. “Sometimes 280 characters aren’t enough and some conversational nuances are lost in translation. So starting today, we’re testing a new feature that will add a more human touch to the way we use Twitter — your very own voice,” say Twitter’s Maya Patterson and Rémy Bourgoin in a press release. You can record up to 140 seconds of audio.

We're not sure if we'll ever actually use this feature but Stereogum points out Liz Phair has already made the most of it, tweeting an off-the-cuff ditty all about this "New toy :)." The lyrics are:

Oh yeah, Twitter has a new sound feature
And I like it very much
I like it a lot
I'll probably use it too much
Oh yeah, Twitter didn’t pay me to say this
But I like it very much
I like it a lot
I think I’ll use it too much
Cause I do this anyway
All through the day when I’m supposed to be working
and I don’t really want to
Oh yeah, Twitter is a smart cookie
Cause it’s got me hooked already
I think I’m playing hooky
I’ll probably go back to work after this verse
Oh yeah, Twitter shouldn’t do this to people
Who can’t keep their hands off instruments
can’t stop making ditties in their minds
Wake up from sleep with a song in their heads
Don’t be surprised if you never hear from me again
because I’m just playing with the sound feature

Meanwhile, Liz's first new album in nearly a decade, Soberish, is on the way, but her tour with Alanis Morissette and Garbage has been postponed till next year.
