Listen to Marisa Anderson's cover of Elliott Smith's "The White Lady Loves You More"

As mentioned, Elliott Smith‘s 1995 self-titled sophomore album is getting an expanded 25th anniversary reissue on August 28 via Kill Rock Stars, packaged with a live album recorded September 17, 1994 at Portland’s café and “art salon” Umbra Penumbra, and several artists are releasing Elliott Smith covers in conjunction with the reissue. Califone already released their “Needle in the Hay” cover, and we’re now premiering Portland guitarist Marisa Anderson‘s cover of “The White Lady Loves You More.”

Marisa takes the original and turns it into an instrumental, American Primitivism-style guitar song, and her reinvention of the song is absolutely gorgeous in its minimalism, proving that sometimes less really is more. Listen below.

“Big Decision” and “Some Song” from the live album were recently released too.
