listen to Matt Berry’s new single “The Peach & the Melon’ from ‘The Small Hours’
The multitalented Matt Berry's new album The Small Hours is out this Friday (9/16) via Acid Jazz. As I've said before, most people just know him as a comedian from such British series as The IT Crowd, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, and Snuff Box. But he's a very accomplished musician (he composed all the music for Snuff Box) whose records owe much to lush, baroque folk-rock. There are touches of humor in the lyrics, but this is not novelty rock. The new single off The Small Hours is "The Peach & the Mellon" and is a terrific example of what Berry can do, musically. He told us a little about it:
"The Peach and the Melon" is a song about wasted time. It is a very thinly veiled comment on organised religion/cults. The sentiment can be condensed in the lyric 'preoccupied with looking up when it's so clear, it's all down here'
Yes, but what about the "the fox came in and woke me up, damn creature ate my pizza?" Discern for yourself, "The Peach and the Mellon" premieres in this post. Stream it below.
