The 2018 edition of Lollapalooza kicked off in Chicago's Grant Park on Thursday (8/2) with sets from Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, Tyler Childers, Supa Bwe, Stars, G Herbo, Basement, Valee, Camila Cabello, Khalid, Jaden Smith, Billie Eilish, and more. Check out pictures from Thursday in the gallery above.

Security is tightened at this year's edition of the festival, with airport-style screenings at entrances and large bags and backpacks banned. The changes are partially in response to Las Vegas Route 91 Harvest Music Fest shooter Stephen Paddock, who reportedly booked hotel rooms overlooking Lollapalooza last year, too, that he didn't check into. As The Hollywood Reporter reports, there's also additional security outside the festival grounds, including road closures, additional barricades, and monitoring of rooftops and hotel rooms around Grant Park.

Travis Scott used his set to debut material from his new album, Astroworld. As Chicago Tribune reports, his set was also the setting for a marriage proposal:

Some people want quiet marriage proposals, some people decide to propose to their significant others in front of a crowd during a packed music festival set. A determined festivalgoer managed to finesse a proposal Thursday evening during Travis Scott's headlining set. In the middle of Scott's performance, a mystery man who fought through the crowds made his way to the front barricade where he caught Scott's attention by holding an engagement ring. The rapper pulled the man on stage and handed him a microphone, where he called his girlfriend of eight years, Dominique, on stage. "Much love to the people who helped me get up here," he told the crowd. It took about 15 minutes to get the flustered Dominique on stage, while her boyfriend whooped and hollered about how beautiful she is. "She's taken now, so don't get any ideas!" he shouted to the audience. When Dominique got on stage, he popped the question, and she said yes. On the side of the stage, Scott beamed the whole time, and his crew set off the smoke cannons as the couple embraced, to celebrate the engagement. The couple, holding hands, made their way off the stage, and Scott continued his high-energy set as planned.

Earlier in the day, Matt Berninger of The National reprised his album appearance with CHVRCHES onstage for "My Enemy" - watch a video clip of that below. The National perform at Lollapalooza on Friday.
