London band Goat Girl announce debut LP, playing NYC & SXSW (listen to 2 songs)
Nearly two years on from their debut 7", South London quartet Goat Girl will release their self-titled debut album, produced by Dan Carey (Bat For Lashes, Kate Tempest, TOY), on April 6 via Rough Trade. "Simply put, it's an album that comes from growing up in London and the first-hand experience of our city's devolution," say the band. "We wanted to think of it as this place seen not necessarily just through our eyes, but someone who can't get past the abnormalities and strange happenings that exist in our city. We think this gives the freedom lyrically and musically to explore unspoken truths and emotions that we all as humans feel." While they come from the same scene as Fat White Family and Shame, their sound recalls The Kinks by way of early-'80s Rough Trade acts like The Fall and The Raincoats. The video for new single "The Man" tips its hat to Beatlemania and you can watch that, along with the video for "Cracker Drool," below.
Goat Girl will be visiting the U.S. for the first time this spring to play SXSW. On their way home they'll stop in NYC for a show at Union Pool on March 20. Tickets for that show are on sale now.
