Loney Dear preps first album in 6 years (listen to "Sum")

Swedish singer-songwriter Loney Dear has been quiet for most of this decade — his last album was in 2011 — but has returned with a new, self-titled album that will be out September 29 via Peter Gabriel’s Real World label. (Previous records were on Polyvinyl and Sub Pop.) “It’s been a little bit like being out on the ocean swimming without anything to hold on to and now I’ve reached the beach,” says Emil Svanängen who is Loney Dear for all intents and purposes. He also says the new album allowed him to explore some inner demons “There have been terrible situations, I have found dark paths inside, I have learned about myself, I have discovered music, my artistry, my pros and cons. I must learn how to live without wanting to give up.” The first single is the synthy, ethereal, Bon Iver-y “Sum” which you can listen to below.

You can pre-order Loney Dear now, and check out the album art and tracklist below.

We would be remiss to not point out that Loney Dear played one of Brooklyn Vegan’s 2006 CMJ day parties with Thunderbirds Are Now! who are also back. There’s a new (great) Broken Social Scene record out today… welcome to the mid-’00s all over again.
