Lonnie Holley MITH

Lonnie Holley shares "I Woke Up In A Fucked-Up America" off LP on Jagjaguwar

Storied outsider artist Lonnie Holley has had an increasingly strong presence within the indie rock world over the past few years — he’s played shows with Deerhunter, Bill Callahan, Bon Iver, and more, and collaborated with members of Deerhunter and Black Lips, to name a few things. Now he has signed to Jagjaguwar (also home to Bon Iver, Angel Olsen, Dinosaur Jr, and more), and he’ll release his new album MITH on September 21 via that label. It features contributions from fellow cult artist Laraaji, the late Richard Swift, unique folk duo Anna & Elizabeth, experimental-music great Shahzad Ismaily, Della Mae’s Courtney Hartman, saxophonist Sam Gendel, and the Nelson Patton duo.

The first single takes on the depressing social/political climate that we’re currently living in, and with a title like “I Woke Up In A Fucked-Up America,” it doesn’t hold back at all from letting you realize that. It’s a powerful, eccentric song, and it’s got an equally powerful video (directed by Matt Arnett and Ethan Payne) to go along with it. Check it out below.

Lonnie is touring this month into early August with another indie band, Animal Collective. He’s not on their NYC shows, but he’ll be here for his own show on September 7 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (more info presumably coming soon). He also plays Pickathon 2018 and Big Ears 2019. All dates are listed below.
