Lords of Chaos

Lords of Chaos: Norwegian black metal film out soon; Black Anvil playing free NYC release party (watch a teaser)

Lords of Chaos — the new film about Norwegian black metal (based on the 1998 book of the same name) that stars Rory Culkin, Emory Cohen, Jack Kilmer, Sky Ferreira, and Valter Skarsgard, and features music by Sigur Ros — hits theaters February 8 and on-demand February 22. There’s a newish official trailer out now, as well as a 30-second teaser of a scene where the late Mayhem member Euronymous (Culkin) meets the notorious Burzum leader Varg Vikernes (Cohen), who, as you may know, went on to murder Euronymous. Watch both, and a previous teaser that highlights Dead, below.

In NYC, the film is screening on 2/8 at the Alamo Drafthouse in Downtown Brooklyn, followed by a Q&A with Rory Culkin and director (and ex-Bathory member) Jonas Akerlund (sold out), and it comes to Greenpoint’s Film Noir Cinema on 2/15, 2/16, and 2/17 (tickets coming soon). There’s also a release party on February 5 at Saint Vitus, which features a set by local black metal band Black Anvil, music by DJ Jackpot Plus, and an after party following Black Anvil’s set. It’s totally free and tickets to reserve a spot are available. Flyer below.

Meanwhile, for those in other cities, head to the Lords of Chaos website for info on other screenings.

And speaking of corpse paint and release parties at Saint Vitus, the original satanist King Diamond will be celebrated at the Brooklyn venue the following night (2/6). It’s a release party for the King Diamond live album/film Songs for the Dead Live which comes out this Friday (1/25). It’s also free, and RSVP is required.
