Kranky Records is presenting a two-night event titled “Let A Frown Be Your Umbrella” featuring artists from their roster. Night 1 (Sunday, 11/20) featured ambient artists Loscil and Benoît Pioulard. Pioulard (Thomas Meluch) delivered an entirely improvised set of music (except for a few pre-written words that were sung at a few points during his set), consisting of dreamy guitar and vocal manipulations. Loscil (Scott Morgan), meanwhile, played in near darkness, drawing solely on his brand new album Monument Builders which was allegedly influenced by Scott’s hearing Phillip Glass’ Koyaaniqatsi score on a worn out VHS tape. Pics from Sunday’s show are in this post.

Tonight (11/21) wraps up “Let A Frown Be Your Umbrella” at LPR with performances from Steve Hauschildt and Forma. Tickets are still available.
