Lucy Dacus streaming 'No Burden,' touring, playing shows with Odetta Hartman, Margaret Glaspy, Houndmouth & more

Richmond indie folk singer Lucy Dacus releases her debut album, No Burden, this Friday (2/26) via EggHunt Records, and she’s streaming the whole thing now.

Her solemn vocals in No Burden are often reminiscent of Sharon Van Etten’s, with deeply personal, introspective lyrics about her insecurities and finding her place in life. Tracks like “Map On a Wall”, where she pleads to not “make fun of her with her crooked smile and crowded teeth,” show a level of self-awareness and anxiety that is blunt and relatable. It’s an approach not unlike Waxahatchee, Laura Marling, or Courtney Barnett. It’s one of those albums you can’t just brush off after listening to it. Stream it below (via Noisey).

She’s heading on tour in support of the album, including a headlining run that hits SXSW, followed by a run opening for Houndmouth. Both of those runs stop in NYC.

First she plays here at Baby’s All Right on February 28 with Odetta Hartman and Margaret Glaspy (that’s a good bill all around). Tickets for that one are on sale now. Then the run with Houndmouth hits NYC on April 23 at Terminal 5, and as mentioned that show is also with Rayland Baxter. Tickets for that show are still available too.
