Gina Volpe of NYC punk vets Lunachicks (and Bantam) will release her first solo album, Delete the World, on February 23 via Heavy Nose Records. The first single is “Drink Me,” a catchy, swaggering dance-punk song that should not only appeal to Lunachicks fans, but anyone who’s into anything from Sleater-Kinney to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
“I started noticing an ongoing theme of escapism while writing the album’s lyrics,” Gina says. “‘Drink Me’ was inspired by not only my own occasional tendencies to lean precariously too heavily on
a vice – wine in this case, but also the collective experience of friends I had been in recent conversation with about obsession and addiction. The line in the song, ‘one foot in the grave, the other in my mouth’ is a cheeky observation of just how messy (and dangerous) our habits of running to the nearest exit can be.”
“Drink Me” comes with a video made by multi-media artist Stänzii, and it’s a pretty vivid and trippy clip that they recommend watching at 4K to get the full experience. (It really does make a difference.) Check it out below.
The album was made by Gina on all instruments except for drums by Jeremy Kinney and Sam Warfield, and a guest appearance by Bantam bassist Doug Oosterhouse. It was produced by Barb Morrison. Pre-orders aren’t up yet but you can follow Gina here for updates.
