On a drizzly Wednesday night (5/4), the NYC stop on M. Ward's "More Rain" tour fulfilled its name at Webster Hall. Supporting his first solo album in four years, he and his band (which currently includes Young Fresh Fellows/Minus 5/REM guitarist Scott McCaughey) played a 20+ song set that touched on his whole solo career.
Opening on this tour are NAF (Nice As Fuck) which features M. Ward's old pal Jenny Lewis, as well as Erika Spring of Au Revoir Simone and Tennessee Thomas of The Nice. They set up on the floor, a nice surprise for crowd up front, most of whom were seeing (or hearing of) NAF for the first time. Their short, fun set included a very catchy theme song.
M. Ward will be back in NYC this summer for Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival. More pictures from Webster Hall are below.
