Mall Walk

Oakland, CA trio Mall Walk haven’t been around long at all but have already slid themselves into the local scene, having played shows with Terry Malts, Legs, Kevin Morby and more. Their sound fits in there well, moody and melodic guitar rock with definite UK influences. The band have been working with SF producer Monte Vallier (Weekend, Wax Idols, Soft Moon) the results of which are Mall Walk’s debut EP which is due out on October 14 on Vacant Stare. Opening cut “Manufactured Defect” kicks off with a stomping beat and tremelo’d harmonics that recall the days when U2 were in competition with Echo & the Bunnymen and The Chameleons. But by the time the chorus comes in, Mall Walk are clearly in America in 2014. It’s a nice mix and the song makes its premiere in this post. Stream it below.

Mall Walk haven’t made their way east yet but they do have a couple Bay Area shows coming up, playing with Ought this weekend at Bottom of the Hill (10/4). All dates are listed, along with the song stream, below.
