Many Arms

In one corner, Nick Millevoi’s dissonant trichords and veiny, muscle-bound threads of notes superimpose guest musician Colin Fisher’s tantrum outbursts of squalling noise. Each attack is anchored with dizzying dexterity by bassist John DeBlase and drummer Ricardo Lagomasino, who both manage to expel tight grooves in between bursts of bloodthirsty free jazz and maintain peak Lance Armstrong-levels of inertia. With a Burroughs-style approach to not giving a fuck, Many Arms combine basement punk and 50s avant-garde to terrifying effect. [Tiny Mix Tapes]

Punk-jazz combo Many Arms is the trio of guitarist Nick Millevoi (who just opened for Alden Penner in NYC last night), bassist John DeBlase (of Zevious), drummer Ricardo Lagomasino (of Deleted Scenes and a Joe Lally collaborator), and they recently added guest saxophonist Colin Fischer (of Caribou). Their new album, Suspended Definition, comes out today (4/29) via John Zorn’s Tzadik Records, an appropriate home for this kind of stuff. You can pick up the album at the Tzadik webstore, but if you’d like to hear it before you buy, you can check out the full stream which premieres below.

Many Arms also have a June tour coming up which kicks off here in NYC on June 5 at Saint Vitus. Tickets for that show are not on sale yet, but should be soon via Ticketfly.
