Marco Benevento shares title track off 'Let It Slide,' touring with The Mattson 2

Marco Benevento was bridging the gap between indie rock and jam bands way before there were thinkpieces on how “all your indie faves are jam bands now” (his collaborators include everyone from AC Newman and Kevin Morby to members of Phish and the Grateful Dead), so it’s an especially good time to get excited about a new album from him. It’s called Let It Slide and it’s due September 20 via his own Royal Potato Family label. It was produced by Leon Michels of El Michels Affair, and Leon also played organ, percussion, bass, guitar, and sax on the album, and other contributors include Karina Rykman who plays bass in Marco’s live band (and provided vocals on this album), Nick Movshon (drums, bass), Andy Borger (drums on “Solid Gold”), and The Barr Brothers’ Brad Barr (guitar on “Humanz”).

The album was also inspired by Marco’s former collaborator Richard Swift, who sadly passed away during the making of the album. Marco tells KCRW:

One of our best friends, Richard Swift, a legendary musician/producer, passed away during the recording of this record. He was the one that actually connected me with Leon Michels who produced the album. So needless to say he was on our minds every step of the way. Leon mentioned how involved Swift was in ALL parts of his own art, from playing all the instruments, to creating all of the artwork, to making videos for his tunes. So, Richard truly inspired me to make my own video for this song.

The song in question is the just-released title track, which is the kind of modern update on psychedelic pop that fans of Tame Impala might like. Listen and watch the video below, alongside the album artwork and tracklist.

Marco Benevento played the Industry City Summer Series last night, and has now announced a headlining East Coast tour for the fall. Most dates are on the tour are with The Mattson 2, who recently released their new album Paradise.

The run with The Mattson 2 includes a Brooklyn show on October 24 at Music Hall of Williamsburg. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (6/28) at 10 AM. All dates are listed below.
