Marlene Marder, guitarist for Swiss postpunk group Kleenex/LiLiPUT, died on Sunday, May 15 at age 60. No cause of death has been given at this time. The sad news broke via Kill Rock Stars, who released a box set of band's output a few years back. Formed in Zurich in 1978, the quartet's minimal sound is exemplified on classics like "Hitch-Hike" and "Die Matrosen." The band changed their name from Kleenex to LiLiPUT after legal threats from the tissue company, and called it quits after five years. But their music's influence continues today, and can be heard in groups like Shopping, Priests, and probably a few of the bands playing this weekend's NYC Popfest.
