Massive Attack played 'Mezzanine' & more at Radio City (night 1 pics & video)

Trip hop icons Massive Attack‘s Mezzanine XXI tour hit NYC on Thursday night (9/26) for their first of two shows at Radio CIty Music Hall. The tour’s in celebration of  their classic 1998 album, and they’ve brought along some vocal help courtesy Horace Andy and former Cocteau Twins singer Liz Fraser. Visuals on this tour are stellar and peppered with political commentary — when Trump was flashed on the projection screens, the place erupted in boos. In addition to all of Mezzanine (which is not played in running order), they’re dropping in cool covers, like Bauhaus’ “Bela Lugosi’s Dead,” “The Cure’s “10:15 Saturday Night” and Ultravox “Rockwrok.” But it’s tracks like “Teardrop” and Black Milk,” both sung by Fraser, that had the crowd going wild.

Massive Attack play Radio City again tonight (resale tickets available) and on Saturday night (9/28), they’ll be spinning at a late-night, all-night DJ party at Webster Hall (tickets).

Pictures from Radio CIty night 1 are in the gallery above and the setlist, and some fan-taken videos, are below.
