Mastodon appeared in ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 finale, prep new EP
[Mild spoilerage about Game of Thrones' Season 7 finale and the series in general follow.]
Eagle-eye viewers and three-eyed ravens may have spotted Mastodon's Brann Dailor, Bill Kelliher, and Brent Hinds playing zombies known as wights in last night's Season 7 finale of Game of Thrones. It was a callback to the Season 5 episode "Hardhome" where they played wildlings who faced off against the Night King's horde of wights...and didn't fare so well. You can catch replays of the Season 7 finale on HBO this week, or stream it via HBO Go and HBO Now. Savor it...the show's final season might not be back till 2019.
Meanwhile, Mastodon have a new EP, Cold Dark Place, that will be out digitally on September 22 and as a 10" vinyl picture disc on October 27. Three of the tracks, "North Side Star," "Blue Walsh," and "Cold Dark Place," were recorded during the sessions for Mastodon's 2014 album Once More 'Round The Sun, while the fourth, "Toe to Toes," was recorded during the sessions for 2017's Emperor of Sand. You can check out the cover art, and watch a making-of video about the art, below.
Mastodon will also grace the cover of the new issue of the relaunched Revolver magazine. The issue hits shelves September 12 and there are four different covers, each featuring a different member of the band, and subscribers will receive an exclusive 7" single featuring "Toe To Toes" and an instrumental version of that song on the flip.
The band will be on tour for most of the fall, including dates with Eagles of Death Metal and Russian Circles, and a stop at Camden, NJ's Rock Allegiance Fest in October. Updated tour dates are listed below.
