Though his ambitious new album, Fresh Blood, isn’t out till next week, Matthew E White celebrated last night with release show at the BRIC Arts Media House on Tuesday night (3/3). It was a special show too, with a 25-or-so piece orchestra and backup singers to replicate the deep shag arrangements on Fresh Blood. “I hope you’re having half as much fun as I’m having,” gushed White after a few songs. With all those strings, songs like the sweeping “Holy Moly” got the wall-of-sound scope they needed, and were worth trudging out in last night’s slush to see. Pics and setlist are in this post. The show was filmed for BRIC’s public access cable channel, so look out for that soon.

If you haven’t heard Fresh Blood yet, it’s streaming at NPR. Matthew E White and his regular band (minus all those strings and brass and backup singers) will be on tour soon, with another NYC show at Baby’s All Right on April 6 with Wilsen and Karima Walker. Tickets are still available. Matthew also makes his network television debut on The Late Show with David Letterman on March 16
