Mayhem/Abbath shows cancelled in San Francisco & Seattle due to coronavirus

UPDATE: The entire tour has now been cancelled.

As it has in San Francisco, a ban of large gatherings has been enacted in the Seattle area due to public health concerns over the coronavirus. That ban, which Washington governor Jay Inslee announced today, is in place for King, Pierce and Snohomish counties through the end of March, as Seattle Times reports, and prohibits gatherings of more than 250 people. Concerts are among the many events to be affected by the ban, and with that in mind, Decibel has announced the cancellation of the Seattle and San Francisco dates of its 2020 Decibel Magazine tour, which features Mayhem, Abbath, Gatecreeper and Idle Hands.

The Seattle date was scheduled for March 17 at Showbox Market, and the San Francisco date on March 20 at The Regency Ballroom. The rest of the tour, which starts Friday, is currently set to go on as planned; see all dates below.

Meanwhile, Mayhem’s drummer, Jan Axel Blomberg aka Hellhammer, will be missing this tour due to a shoulder infection. Tony Laureano, who has played with Dimmu Borgir, Nile, and Malevolent Creation, among others, will sit in for him. Here’s Mayhem’s statement:

Due to a severe shoulder infection caused by osteoarthritis that has plagued Hellhammer for quite some time now, he will unfortunately not be able to perform on the upcoming North America tour. He has been working with a physiotherapist for the last couple of months in the hopes that he would be fully healed before the tour, but has ultimately been ordered to rest for some more weeks.

Filling in for Hellhammer will be Tony Laureano, who has a prestigious track record as a session and drummer for a number of other bands such as Dimmu Borgir, Nile, Angelcorpse, Malevolent Creation, God Dethroned, Acheron, Belphegor, 1349, Brujeria, etc.

Hellhammer comments :
“See ‘all next time!”
