Mazzy Star co-founder David Roback has died at 61, according to a representative of the band. No cause of death has been given (UPDATE: it was cancer). Born in 1958, Roback was one of the central figures in L.A.'s neo-psychedelic "Paisley Underground" scene as a member of such bands as Rain Parade, Opal and Rainy Day. He formed Mazzy Star with Hope Sandoval when Opal dissolved, and their second album, So Tonight That I Might See, became a hit thanks to single "Fade Into You."

After breaking up in the late '90s, Mazzy Star reformed for shows in the early 2010s and released a new EP in 2018. Rest in peace, David. Your music lives on.
