Me First and the Gimme Gimmes released a greatest hits this year and they’re on tour now playing their beloved pop punk covers of non-pop punk songs. They hit NYC’s Webster Hall on Sunday (4/23) and treated the crowd to punked up versions of “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard,” “Sloop John B,” “Country Roads,” “Jolene,” “I Believe I Can Fly,” “Over the Rainbow,” “I Will Survive,” “Sweet Caroline,” and 15 others (setlist below).

Gimmes members Fat Mike (NOFX) and Chris Shiflett (Foo Fighters) are sitting this tour out, and they were replaced by Bad Religion’s Jay Bentley and Chris Shiflett’s brother Scott (of Face to Face). Perhaps as an ode to Fat Mike’s absence, Zach Quinn of openers PEARS joined openers Masked Intruder for a cover of “Linoleum.”

The rest of the regular Gimmes lineup, Joey Cape (Lagwagon) and Spike Slawson, were there. Spike also has a ukulele-based project called “Uke Hunt” and he broke out the uke for a song and had the crowd chant “Uke! Hunt!” Juvenile, but fun.

Pictures of the Webster Hall show are in the gallery above. Fat Mike will make it over to this area with NOFX play Asbury Park’s Punk Rock Bowling.
