The nominees for the 2018 Mercury Prize, an award for the best UK or Irish album of the past year as voted on by a panel of judges, have been announced. Here's the list:

Wolf Alice - Visions of a Life

The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony, which takes place at London’s Eventim Apollo on September 20. Last year's winner was Sampha's Process.

As Laura Snapes at The Guardian points out, Let’s Eat Grandma, Gwenno, Hookworms, Charli XCX, Baxter Dury and Sophie are all notably missing from the list of nominees.
