Mercury Rev announce ‘Deserter’s Songs’ 20th anniversary tour (BV Presents NYC show & presale)
Mercury Rev's fourth album, 1998's Deserter's Songs, is a modern classic, and its widescreen, orchestral psych is, in a lot of ways, a call whose response was The Flaming Lips' The Soft Bulletin (which would be released the next year). Songs like "Holes," "Goddess on a Hiway," and "Opus 40" still sound like nothing else. Stream it below.
The band will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of Deserter's Songs on tour this fall. North American dates kick off with California's Desert Daze festival in October (where they'll play the album in full), and include a NYC show at Music Hall of Williamsburg on October 26 which BrooklynVegan is excited to be presenting. UPDATE: Due to scheduling conflicts, the show is now a day later on October 27. Tickets for the MHOW show go on sale Friday, April 6 at noon but you can get tickets early with the BrooklynVegan presale which starts Wednesday (4/4) at noon. Not all dates have been announced yet, but they'll also bring Deserter's Songs to San Francisco, Portland and Seattle. All known dates are listed below.
