Metal tours announced: Nifelheim, YOB, Origin, Dreadnought, Doro, Code Orange, more

Nifelheim

Tons of shows get announced every week, and it can be hard to keep up. Here are all the heavy music (metal, hardcore & more) tours, shows & fests that we posted on BV this week, and some new ones too…

NIFELHEIM

Swedish black metal vets Nifelheim remain active (they very recently toured Europe with At The Gates), but it’s been a few years since they’ve played the US. We already knew that would change at Maryland Deathfest 2020, and we also now know they’ll play a MDF-presented Brooklyn show right before MDF at Saint Vitus on May 21 with two other bands playing MDF: Canada’s Panzerfaust and Swedish thrashers Antichrist (tickets). Those are Nifelheim’s only upcoming US shows at the moment, and the only other shows in general that they have lined up right now are Germany’s Hell Over Hammaburg Festival, Sweden’s Abyss Festival, and Germany’s Rock Hard Festival. Watch a video of Nifelheim’s last NYC show (Saint Vitus in 2015):

FIRE IN THE MOUNTAINS 2020

More bands have been announced for this year’s Fire In The Mountains festival (7/11-7/12), which Enslaved are headlining and curating. The lineup now includes Hexvessel (who announced a new album and released a song today), a collaborative Bell Witch + Aerial Ruin set, YOB, Dreadnought, Obsequiae, Eternal Champion, Wayfarer, Dbuk, Tchornobog, and Haunter, and there’s still more TBA. Tickets are on sale.

YOB

Speaking of YOB, the Eugene, OR psychedelic doom greats also announced a mostly-West Coast tour for March today, including shows in Sacramento, Santa Cruz, Oakland, LA, San Diego, Tucson, Albuquerque, Denver, Salt Lake City, and Boise. They’ve also got a Europe tour in May. All dates and tickets here.

MARS RED SKY / DREADNOUGHT

Before Dreadnought play Fire In The Mountains, they’ll do a spring North American tour with France’s Mars Red Sky, who share Dreadnought’s knack for blending heavy music and psych (but lean more straight-up psych, while Dreadnought lean more metal). That tour hits Chicago, Denver, San Diego, LA, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, and more. All dates here.

DECIBEL PHILLY PRE-FEST

Before the stacked Philly edition of Decibel Metal & Beer Fest (April 3-4), Decibel will throw a mini pre-fest show on 4/2 at The Foundry with the great lineup of death metal vets Dying Fetus, metallic hardcore pioneers Ringworm, and great newer death metal band Genocide Pact. Tickets and more info here.

ORIGIN / BENEATH THE MASSACRE / DEFEATED SANITY / WAKE

Kansas tech-death vets Origin have announced a headlining North American tour supporting last year’s Abiogenesis – A Coming into Existence, and they’ll be joined on all dates by Canada’s Beneath the Massacre and Germany’s Defeated Sanity. The Southwest/West Coast dates are also with Canadian grinders Wake, who have an anticipated album coming this year, and “special guests” for the tour are listed too. Dates include Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Montreal, NYC (Le Poisson Rouge on 3/21), Orlando, Atlanta, Austin, LA, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, and more. All dates here.

WARHORSE

Reunited Massachusetts doom greats Warhorse have added a few shows. They now have their BrooklynVegan-presented NYC show at Saint Vitus on 2/1 with Yatra and Green Dragon, a Portland, Maine show on 3/21, Roadburn, and New Mexico’s Monolith on the Mesa Fest in May. We just interviewed drummer/vocalist Mike Hubbard about reuniting, the state of doom and more. Head here to read that and for more show details.

DORO

“Queen of Heavy Metal” and former Warlock frontwoman Doro remains very active roughly four decades into her career, and she’ll spend 2020 on a world that tour that includes US shows in Phoenix, San Diego, Los Angeles, New York (The Chance on 5/3), Pennsylvania, Cleveland, Chicago, and more. All dates and tickets here.

CODE ORANGE / SHOW ME THE BODY / JESUS PIECE / YEAR OF THE KNIFE / MACHINE GIRL

Code Orange will release their anticipated new album Underneath on March 13 via Roadrunner, and they’ve just announced a headlining tour in support of it. They’ve also put together a stacked lineup of openers, including Show Me The Body, who play their own NYC show after the tour.

LITURGY / LEYA

Brooklyn black metallers Liturgy announced an East Coast/Midwest tour supporting last year’s H.A.Q.Q.

DOWN

NOLA sludge supergroup Down announced the first US date of their NOLA 25th anniversary shows (Psycho Las Vegas), and they’re also promising a New Orleans show. More info here.

ALICE COOPER / LITA FORD / TESLA

Alice Cooper added a second leg of dates to his tour with Lita Ford, and this run also features Tesla.

RAMMSTEIN

Having released their first album in a decade in 2019, German metal/electronic vets Rammstein are now plotting a 2020 tour.

TOOL

Tool are on tour as we write this, playing Austin tonight, and the band have just added a few shows in March, hitting Spokane, Portland, Eugene and Boise. Before that they’ll stop in Dallas, Atlanta, Nashville, Memphis and New Orleans. They’ve also got dates in Australia, and are on tap for Bonnaroo. All dates are listed here.

SANGUISUGABOGG

Ohio death metallers Sanguisugabogg announced US tour dates, with support from Vomit Forth, Undeath, and Graveview.

GWAR (AND RAWG)

GWAR, who were just in NYC to play a a holiday show at Brooklyn’s Warsaw, will play Phoenix on March 28 and then the next day will play Brooklyn’s Saint Vitus without their costumes as RAWG.

CHUBBY AND THE GANG (w/ HANK WOOD & more)

UK punks Chubby and the Gang are currently on a US tour supporting their new album Speed Kills (which came out last week on Static Shock Records), and if you haven’t heard it, fans of late ’70s/early ’80s UK punk will probably dig this one. Most dates are with The Royal Hounds (including the NYC show that happened last week), but Chubby will be back in NYC without Royal Hounds to open for local greats Hank Wood and the Hammerheads on January 31 at Market Hotel. Stigmatism and Pinocchio round out that all-around solid bill, and tickets are on sale. All dates here.

OPEN CITY / SOUL GLO

Open City (the Philly punk supergroup with members of Lifetime, Paint It Black, and more) revealed venues for their upcoming short Northeast tour with Soul Glo. Dates, venues, and ticket info here.
