Metal tours announced: Rotting Christ, Melvins, Vale of Pnath, Soulfly/Toxic Holocaust, Randy Blythe, Swans, more
Tons of shows get announced every week, and it can be hard to keep up. Here are all the heavy music (metal, hardcore & more) tours, shows & fests that we posted on BV this week, and some new ones too...
There aren't any shows coming up very soon for Cirith Ungol -- the doomy Heavy Metal legends who reunited in 2017 and played a lot of festivals including Psycho Las Vegas that year -- but you can get the next best thing by picking up the recently released (Oct 25 on Metal Blade) I'm Alive live album and DVD which is 17 songs recorded at the 2017 edition of the Up The Hammers Festival in Athens, Greece. The album is a very fun listen, and "accompanied by additional performances recorded at the Hammer of Doom (2017) and Rock Hard Festivals (2018) in Germany" and "a special in-depth documentary spanning 2 hours in length was recorded, which includes exclusive interviews about the history and legacy of the band, as told by the current and original members." Pretty sweet.
Cirith Ungol do also have some actual live shows on the schedule already for 2020 though, including Maryland Doom Fest (June 18-21, 2020), and Spain's Rock The Night Festival (June 25-27) in Madrid with Mercyful Fate (their exclusive Spain reunion show), Devin Townsend, At The Gates, Heilung, Napalm Death, MGLA, Wormed, Tygers of Pan Tang, Skid Row, and more. Hopefully more dates will soon be announced.
MARYLAND DOOM FEST 2020
Maryland Doom Fest will be celebrating their 6th anniversary with over 50 bands playing from June 18-21 in Frederick, Maryland. That includes the aforementioned Cirith Ungol (see above), Blood Ceremony, Mondo Generator, Speedealer, The Skull, Sorcerer, Death Row Assembly, Witch Mountain, and many more.
MARYLAND DEATHFEST 2020
The other MDF meanwhile takes place in Baltimore, MD a month earlier (May 21-24), and as previously discussed, includes Bloodbath, Demilich, Dismember, Sacramentum, Exhorder, Suffocation, Coffins, Negative Approach, Vio-lence, Negative Approach, Fuck The Facts, Nocturnus AD, Cerebral Rot, Novembers Doomand, Frizzi 2 Fulci (Fabio Frizzi in concert, in tribute to Lucio Fulci), and much more.. Daily lineups are out and tickets are on sale.
QUEBEC DEATHFEST 2020
No lineup yet, but the dates were just announced for the third edition of Quebec Deathfest. It goes down Sept 18-19, 2020 in Montreal.
Speaking of Fabio Frizzi, you can see him in North America much sooner than MDF 2020, as he is on tour now performing a live score to 1981's The Beyond and a Frizzi 2 Fulci set. The tour hits Syracuse tonight (11/22), and has upcoming shows in Boston, Philly, Brooklyn, Nashville, New Orleans, Austin, Los Angeles, Denver, Atlanta, and more.
As announced earlier this year, Metallica are headlining five Danny Wimmer Presents festivals in 2020, and they're playing two nights at each and promising 10 unique setlists for the whole thing. First up is Epicenter, who announced their 2020 lineup this week. It also features David Lee Roth, Deftones, Gojira, Rancid, Cypress Hill, Anthrax, Code Orange, The Darkness, Sick Of It All, Agnostic Front, Power Trip, Brutus, and much more.
NORTHWEST TERROR FEST
The lineup continues to expand for Northwest Terror Fest, with Mizmor being added to a lineup that already includes Repulsion and Obsequiae (whose great new album is out today). Tickets go on sale Friday, November 29. Stay tuned for more announcements.
OBLIVION ACCESS (FKA AUSTIN TERROR FEST)
Meanwhile, Austin Terror Fest -- which is no longer called Austin Terror Fest and instead called Oblivion Access -- announced its initial 2020 lineup, which includes Swans, Converge, Anna von Hausswolff, Lil Ugly Maane, Despise You, True Widow, and Primitive Man.
More cool fests (that we now know the date of): Migration Fest happens in Pittsburgh on August 1-2 with Falls of Rauros, False, Immortal Bird, Kowloon Walled City, Mizmor, Portrayal of Guilt, Tomb Mold, Ulthar, Vastum, Obsequiae, Witch Vomit, Yellow Eyes, and more TBA. Tickets go on sale on January 30.
The most buzzy metal band of the year released their very buzzy album today, and they'll be celebrating it this weekend in their hometown of Denver -- on November 23rd at the Gothic Theatre with Vermin Womb, Dreadnought, and Superstition. It's their final show of the year, and their final Denver show -- they say -- until Fall 2021! They were also just announced on the lineup of Copenhell, a festival in Denmark that happens June 17-20, 2020 (one of the two fests that DOWN is also playing so far). That's their only two announced shows at the moment.
Copenhell also recently added Kiss, Opeth, and Gatecreeper, in addition to Mercyful Fate, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Korn, Emperor, High Command, and Crypt Sermon.
Dave Hill's extremely extreme Norwegian black metal band Witch Taint -- now a real band (previously not a real band) -- will release their debut album in early 2020 -- called Sons of Midwestern Darkness -- on Tee Pee Records (also home to Dave Hill & Chris Reifert's rock band Painted Doll). Witch Taint's next and only upcoming show is tonight/Friday, November 22nd at 11:30pm at Mercury Lounge in NYC. To quote Dave Hill "I know it’s late, but when you’re conjuring the devil and stuff you can’t go on any earlier or it’s weird. Anyway, please come before we destroy the universe and it becomes harder to get bookings as a result. The show is like a Broadway play but with cheaper drinks and more guitar solos. We even have an opera singer in the band." Now you have plans, unless you don't live in NYC or are reading this after Friday, November 22nd.
VALE OF PNATH / GOROD / WOLF KING
Denver tech-deathers Vale of Pnath (who released the Accursed EP earlier this year), French prog-deathers Gorod, and Cali blackened hardcore crew Wolf King are hitting the road together in February/March 2020. The tour includes dates all over the US (including Brooklyn's Kingsland on 2/29). All dates here. Wolf King also recently did an Audiotree session, which should give you an idea of what to expect from them on this tour:
SOULFLY / TOXIC HOLOCAUST
Max Cavalera's band Soulfly have announced a headlining North American tour for February/March 2020, and direct support on all dates comes from Portland thrashers Toxic Holocaust, who released their first album in six years, Primal Future: 2019, last month. ROTTING CHRIST / BORKNAGAR / WOLFHEART / ABIGAIL WILLIAMS / IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT

It goes down from March 19-April 19. Exact dates will be announced on December 3.
Brooklyn black metal greats Krallice have scheduled a hometown show for January 18 at Saint Vitus with The Flying Luttenbachers and Chepang. It's the only upcoming date at the moment for Krallice, who put this live record out in September:
Not (yet?) a tour, but hardcore legends Circle Jerks are reforming to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their classic debut Group Sex and their first show in a decade has been announced: Punk Rock Bowling.
POISON THE WELL
Also not (yet?) a tour, but Poison the Well announced their first show since 2016 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Opposite of December.
RED DEATH / ENFORCED
Two great modern-day crossover thrash bands, DC’s Red Death and Richmond’s Enforced, have announced a North American tour together for January.

PIGFACE WITH RANDY BLYTHE
Industrial supergroup Pigface are currently on their first tour in 14 years. Pigface have also announced a second, matinee show in Chicago on November 30. Head here for all dates.
MElVINS / HEPA.TITUS / CUNTS

Synthwave act GosT is now on tour with Mayhem and Gaahls Wyrd in Europe and they just announced a headlining US tour for 2020.
MOTLEY CRUE / DEF LEPPARD / POISON
Motley Crue signed a contract in 2014 promising they wouldn't get back together after their Final Tour. Well, so much for that -- word is they're touring with fellow '80s hard rock hitmakers Def Leppard and Poison.
CATTLE DECAPITATION (with ATHEIST, AUTHOR & PUNISHER, FULL OF HELL, more)
Cattle Decapitation's anticipated new Death Atlas comes out next week, and their tour begins in Austin tonight (11/22). All dates are with Atheist and Vitriol, all but two are with Author & Punisher, and there's one leg with additional support from Full of Hell (including NYC's LPR on 12/1) and one with additional support from Primitive Man. All dates here.
TOOL / AUTHOR & PUNISHER
Not only is Author & Punisher on the Cattle Decapitation tour, he's also opening Tool's just-announced 2020 tour. Meanwhile, Tool's 2019 tour with Killing Joke wraps up next week, and as we witnessed at Barclays Center on Tuesday (pics, review), this tour is truly awesome and the new songs are major highlights. Catch it if it comes near you. Also, read our interview with Jaz Coleman of Killing Joke on touring with Tool, cell phones at shows, and more.
DECIBEL FEST PHILLY 2020
The lineup for the 2020 Philly edition of Decibel Metal & Beer Fest was finalized today, with new additions Midnight, Gatecreeper, and Necrot joining the previously announced lineup of Converge (playing Jane Doe), Pig Destroyer (playing Prowler In The Yard), Napalm Death (playing Harmony Corruption and Utopia Banished), Mayhem, Satan, Abbath, Idle Hands, Night Demon, Haunt, Magic Circle, and Un.
For Midnight, this announcement comes just as they're wrapping up their tour with Electric Wizard, which we caught at The Fillmore in Philly (the same venue Decibel takes place) on Wednesday. Read a review on Invisible Oranges and see pics right here:
