MGMT streaming new LP w/ "Optimizer" experience, showing it at Knitting Factory Brooklyn tonight

MGMT‘s insanely weird new self-titled album, which is about as far out from Congratulations as that album was from Oracular Spectacular, comes out next week (9/17), but if you’re an RDIO user you can stream it now. It’s not just a stream though, it’s also a trippy visual experience called “Optimizer” which lasts for the entirety of the record. Maybe it’s just timing, but this whole thing goes pretty well with that new Arcade Fire song/visual.
If you’re in NYC, you can experience the “Optimizer” on a big screen tonight (9/11) at Knitting Factory, where they’re showing it at 8 PM. Doors open at 5, and it’s totally free.
MGMT is also the subject of Pitchfork’s new cover story, which is a good read if you’re interested in the band’s shift from accidental pop stars to hard-working creators of strange, somewhat difficult music.
